    We are looking for a Sr. Mechanical Research Engineer to join our growing team.  This role will involve technical leadership and ownership in our growing organization focused around our core technology application research as well as research into areas that are not currently commercialized.   This position will be responsible for co-architecting new platforms that integrate the technology researched in our R&D team. You will be integrating new product concepts that merge our current product learnings and new technology building blocks to create proposals in the areas of mechanical design, fluid flow, structural analysis, composites, thermal management, acoustics, optics.  You will also help develop the laboratory tools, both physical and analytical needed to execute these aims.  This is a cross-functional role focused on Technology Advancement and conceptual verification to deliver high quality products that push the boundaries.

    What you will own:

      • Manage, specification, and design of Mechanical Analytical laboratory and tools within Molekule’s Hardware Technology Advancement lab
      • Establish relationships with local vendors, contractors, and resources required for conceptual design and development of prototype hardware
      • Research, Design, build, and verify new technologies while improving existing technologies at system and module level
      • Create clear development plans tracking key deliverables and milestones necessary for execution
      • Utilize first principles to create concepts and relevant test and development plans to scale technology in new sizes and in applications
      • Create detailed part design records and documentation required to transfer technology within departments or to external vendors
      • Maintain records, reports, communication, administration, and files necessary to accomplish and track job objectives
      • Maintain and expand professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, professional development, reviewing technical publications, benchmarking best practices  
      • Represent department by making technical presentations regarding existing and new technology, test methods, processes to technical and non-technical audiences internal and external to the company
      • Document designs and work closely with R&D to transfer fundamental science into concepts and then with Product and Hardware teams as these concepts can be productized
      • Coordinate development activities with lab technicians, suppliers, and supply chain team to accomplish new developments in a timely manner
      • Enhance existing methodology and processes to ensure continuous improvement

    What you will bring to Molekule:

      • 8+ years of relevant Mechanical Engineering experience
      • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering 
      • Extensive experience in research, innovative concept development, and proof of concepts
      • Proficiency in Solidworks MCAD 
      • Proficiency with analytical tools such for Aero, Thermal, Structural and Optical simulation in static and dynamic domains, preferably in the Solidworks or Ansys suites
      • Willingness to specify and learn new tools or skills as required
      • Very comfortable in a self-directed laboratory environment
      • Familiarity specifying and designing components within a mechanical lab, including flow Meters, orifices, pumps, motors, pressure, thermal, optical sensors, data acquisition systems, strain gauges, shakers, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, rapid prototyping equipment, etc.
      • Strong Analytical problem solving skills coupled with creative mechanical design expertise
      • Deep expertise  designing hardware products, from early ideation, to CAD development, prototyping, verification, documentation, to DFM  
      • Proven ability to work independently on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
      • Proven ability to meet deadlines reliably
      • Excellent presentation skills

    Preferred Qualifications:

      • MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering
      • Previous experience with medical devices, other regulated products, or non-consumer product research and development
      • Experience with product development in varied scale (building to personal
      • Experience with chemical processes, spectroscopy
      • Knowledge of Python, Matlab and/or other scripting languages
      • History designing electro-mechanical systems, PID controls, and risk-driven control models
